Maybe a blog should be more personal but it can also be used to help others find good information. I found two things lately that may be of interest for a variety of reasons:

This comes from a blog on the NY Times by the Authors of
"Freakonomics" which by the way is an interesting book. This days' blog is really an interview with a guy, who for me, encapsulates all sorts of ideas and myths about immigration. This is an issue that will no doubt play large in the 08 elections so we need to have some kind of handle on it. This helps me a lot.
#2 - zipskinny.com - want to compare your zip code with another? Just enter yours and whatever area you want to compare with and voila, your comparison. Not a lot of detail but enough to get a general idea how your area stacks up against other zips.
